I HAD sold my motorcycle about two years ago and had also completed the biometric verification process as the seller, subsequently sharing the receipts with the buyer.
However, despite my repeated reminders, the buyer has still not registered the vehicle in his name. I recently checked the status of my motorcycle on the website of the Sindh Excise and Taxation Depart-
ment, and found the following note alongside the vehicle details: “The owner has confirmed the sale of the vehicle by providing biometric verification to Nadra/ET&C Sindh; however, the buyer has not yet completed the transfer of ownership.”
This is, of course, a welcome initiative by the said department. I would, however, further suggest that once the seller has confirmed the sale of a vehicle, the authorities concerned should require the buyer to transfer ownership to his name within a specified period.
If the buyer fails to do so within that period, the department should suspend or block the vehicle’s registration until the transfer is completed.
We have law and order issues and terrorism-related incidents in the country. Such a measure would not only help reduce the risk of vehicles being misused in criminal activities, but would also compel buyers to transfer ownership of vehicles into their own names within a reasonable time.
