ITP waive urgent driving licence issuance fee

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have waived the urgent driving licence issuance fee as part of a series of measures to facilitate drivers.

The police said Inspector General of Islamabad Police Mohammad Sohail Chaudhry directed the waiver of the urgent fee for driving licences. The processing time for issuing normal driving licences was also reduced from two weeks to three days.

Now there are no urgent and normal licence categories, as the licence will be delivered within two to three days at the doorstep of the applicants. At the time of applying for the licence, the applicant will fill out an address sheet for the courier service, available at the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) office.

After that, the driving licence will be delivered to the applicant’s address. The applicant will visit the ITP office only once to fulfill requirements, such as medical and physical tests, and a photo.

Besides, those who come to the ITP office, or any other police facilitation centre for renewal or duplicate licence, will get it within an hour at the normal fee. There is also no urgent fee for renewal or duplicate licence.

Meanwhile, about 586,577 motorists were caught violating different traffic rules in the capital during the current year, and ITP imposed fines amounting to over Rs5 million on violators.

Out of the total, 647 were diplomats and foreigners, 173 were senior government officers above 18th grade, 145 were army officers, 116 were senators, members of national and provincial assemblies, eight were from the judiciary, five from the media and three from the police. Besides, 87 were celebrities.

There were over 178,499 private motorcycles and 96,204 private vehicles, besides, 1,502 taxies, 32,357 wagons, 113,676 pickups, 18,464 buses, 6,664 rickshaws, 127,846 trucks and 11,365 other vehicles.
