ISLAMABAD: A girl committed suicide after a travel agent defrauded her of Rs5 million.

According to police, the girl, identified as Laiba Ijaz, 20, a student at International Islamic University, was preparing to move to the United States and had paid Rs5 million to the agent for the process.

In return, the agent handed her the travel documents, which were later found to be fake, leaving the girl in distress.

Afterwards, on Friday, she left her house at around 2pm, telling her mother she would return in a while. However, she did not return as expected. Her mother then informed her father, a shopkeeper, that Laiba had not returned.

Subsequently, the family began looking for her, and with the help of mobile phone tracking, located her. They found her body hanging from a tree in Sector G-10.

The police were informed, who reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital.
