KARACHI: As the Sindh government gears up to release wheat stocks at Rs12,500 per 100kg bag from Oct 15 to stabilise flour prices, fearless millers on Thursday further jacked up prices by Rs6 per kg across various flour varieties.
The total increase by the millers in the last few days stood at Rs20 per kg, as the provincial government and the city administration did not take serious notice of the surging flour prices.
After the fresh increase of Rs6 per kg, the rates of flour No. 2.5, maida and fine flour, issued by the mills, are now Rs161, Rs173 and Rs176 per kg, respectively.
Consumers will face further price shock in the coming days when retailers pass on the impact of the latest hike.
The Sindh government has 346,414 tonnes of wheat stock. With 190,000 tonnes from the Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation and 300,000 tonnes of imported wheat to be added, the total stocks available for release will increase to 836,414 tonnes.
