Shayan to face Zain in U-18 decider at national tennis

KARACHI: Shayan Afridi and Zain Nomi adva­nced to the juniors U-18 final at the 23rd Westbury National Tennis Championship on Thursday.

Shayan recovered from a second-set loss to beat Muzammil Bhand 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, while Zain defeated Haziq Areejo 6-2, 6-4 in the other semi-final.

Ibrahim crushed Umer Zaman 4-0, 4-0 while Majid routed Rahim Faisal by the same scoreline.

Boys U-12 last-four clashes saw dominant results as Ibrahim Gill and Majid Bachani set up a title clash.

Taiba Yar advanced to the women’s decider after beating Ayla Benazir 8-3.

Mahateer Muhammad reached the men’s singles final with an 8-1 win over Ehtisham Malik.

The girls under-14 quarter-finals saw Zohha Imad down Zayna Khan 4-1, 4-2 and Anaya Khan defeat Hannah Mudassar 4-1, 5-3.

In seniors’ 35-plus doubles quarter-finals, the duo of Khadim Hussain and Aamir beat Ihssan and Ahmed 8-2.
