Capital police bar officers, personnel from using social media

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have banned the use of social media for all ranks, including officers and other employees, and have warned that strict departmental action will be taken in accordance with the relevant rules in case of any violation.

In this regard, a policy was issued by the office of the police chief, Islamabad, bearing the signature of the deputy inspector general of police headquarters.

According to the policy, all officers and officials, along with other staff, are directed not to speak at public forums in their official capacity, publish articles in print media, or express opinions or issue official statements on social media platforms without prior permission.

Making videos or taking photographs while wearing a police uniform, whether in the premises of government buildings, vehicles or other private places for personal publicity or glorification is strictly prohibited.

Furthermore, the policy restricts officers or officials from uploading, sharing, or disseminating any confidential or official document, photograph or their content on social media or any other media platform.

Under this policy, the officers shall not share or express personal political or religious views on any media platform. Official channels for disseminating information regarding police activities shall be operated exclusively by the public relations branch, central police office.

Unit heads shall be responsible for personally supervising and monitoring the activities of all officers and officials posted in their respective divisions, zones and units. In case of any violation, strict departmental action shall be taken in accordance with the relevant rules.

The policy shall be implemented with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders. Officers, officials and personnel of all ranks shall ensure strict compliance with this policy.
