QUETTA: The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) informed Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) on Monday that the agency was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against elements involved in financial fraud, blackmailing and character assassination through social media.
NCCIA, Quetta, Additional Director Khalid Baqi said most gangs involved in financial fraud through mobile phones and social media were operating from southern Punjab and the riverine areas. QCCI President Ahmed Gul Kakar, Senior Vice President Mirza Khan Khilji, Vice President Jangiyan Dashti and other office-bearers and members attended the meeting.
The NCCIA official said that around 2,000 inquiries were currently pending with the agency and were being processed, appreciated the fact that none of the accused nominated in 158 cases belonged to Balochistan.
The QCCI representatives said members of the business community had suffered financial losses amounting to millions of rupees through online banking, microfinancing and other digital payment channels. They expressed concern over the growing use of fake accounts and social media platforms for blackmailing, character assassination and financial exploitation. They proposed forming a joint team comprising representatives of the QCCI, FIA and NCCIA to ensure prompt action on complaints.
The NCCIA official said the purpose of his visit to the QCCI office and the session was to understand the problems, experiences and suggestions of the business community so that an effective strategy could be developed to combat cybercrime.
