ISLAMABAD: As many as 21 cases of dengue have been reported in the federal capital so far in the current year, according to the District Health Office (DHO).

The DHO said it had intensified surveillance and vector-control activities across the capital to prevent the spread of dengue, particularly in identified hotspots and high-risk areas.

According to the latest surveillance data, the 21 dengue cases were reported between Jan 1 and Oct 5. Of these, 14 cases were reported from rural and seven from urban localities.

On Oct 5 alone, anti-dengue teams carried out 36,167 surveillance and control activities across the capital. The activities included indoor and outdoor surveillance, visits to identified hotspots, monitoring of potential mosquito breeding sites and public awareness campaigns.

Teams identified and eliminated 740 positive mosquito-breeding sites, contributing to efforts to contain dengue transmission and strengthen vector control. As part of hotspot surveillance, the teams visited 2,602 locations, while indoor vector surveillance was also conducted extensively with 7,103 houses inspected.

The DHO said sustained field surveillance, timely identification and elimination of mosquito-breeding sites, monitoring of hotspots and public participation were essential to keeping dengue under control.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with anti-dengue teams and ensure that water containers, rooftops, courtyards and other potential mosquito-breeding sites are kept clean and free of stagnant water.
