SDPO’s reader arrested for ‘accepting bribe’

SARGODHA: The Urban Area police have arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police for allegedly accepting a hefty bribe from a citizen, officials said on Sunday.

The suspect, ASI Ehsanullah Qasim—reader to the city sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) —was taken into custody following a complaint by one Haider Bashir, a resident of Satellite Town, Sargodha.

According to police sources, ASI Qasim allegedly accepted Rs270,000 as a bribe from the complainant. A case has been registered against the suspect under sections 161, 162, and 155 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Police confirmed that a formal investigation into the matter is underway.

Commenting on the arrest, City Circle SDPO Waqar Ahmed said: “No concession will be given to any officials involved in bribery or corruption.”

BODY FOUND: The body of a 35-year-old woman was recovered from a canal near the Umerkot Mamiana Road in Bhera town on Sunday.

According to police sources, the deceased woman was wearing a blue shalwar kameez. It was immediately shifted to a local hospital for the postmortem examination.

The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been established. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

RESCUE 1122: The Rescue 1122 Sargodha team secured the first position in the Divisional Rescue Challenge, held at the emergency service’s substation on the Khushab Road.

The Rescue 1122 teams from Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar participated in the event, where they were rigorously evaluated on the basis of their performance across specialised categories, including fire fitness, deep well rescue and trauma management.

According to an official spokesperson, the evaluation served as a selection trial to represent the Sargodha Division.

The winning squad will participate in the upcoming National Rescue Challenge scheduled to take place at the Emergency Services Academy, Lahore.

District Emergency Officer Mazhar Shah congratulated the winning team.

“The Rescue Challenge is an effective means to improve the professional expertise, practical skills and teamwork of our personnel,” Mr Shah stated.

“These rigorous exercises ensure our teams can deliver faster, more effective life-saving assistance to the public during emergency situations.”
