MUZAFFARABAD: A 28-year-old man was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room at a plaza in Mirpur on Sunday, in what police described as an apparent case of suicide.
Police identified the deceased as Sa’ad Ahmed Khokhar, a resident of Katha Peeran village in Neelum Valley. He had been staying on the third floor of the plaza with his 24-year-old brother, Abad Ahmed, an eighth-semester D-Pharmacy student at a university in Mirpur.
According to police, Sa’ad, who was engaged in online freelancing, went to sleep around midnight on Saturday while his brother remained awake until about 4am.
At around 11:30am on Sunday, a cousin arrived at their room and told Abad that Sa’ad’s fiancée had been trying unsuccessfully to contact him. Abad then discovered that his brother was not in the room.
The duo searched the plaza and found Sa’ad hanging from a ceiling fan in an adjacent room with a piece of cloth, police said. They lowered him from the fan but found him dead.
Police said the circumstances, statements of the relatives and examination of the scene and body indicated that the death appeared to be a suicide.
