Crackdown on profiteers continues

KARACHI: Fines of over Rs1.54 million were imposed and 14 shops sealed during a two-day crackdown against profiteers in all seven districts of Karachi.

According to the reports submitted by deputy commissioners to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, assistant commissioners (ACs)checked prices at 1,192 locations on Oct 1 and 2.

Action was taken against 441 profiteers, with fines totalling Rs1,548,700. Warning notices were issued to 232 shopkeepers and 14 shops were sealed.

During the inspections, conditions at 444 locations were found satisfactory, while at 56 locations, ACs supervised the sale of commodities at officially notified prices.

The press release stated that the commissioner directed the ACs to ensure that shopkeepers prominently display lists showing the officially notified prices of commodities.
