LAHORE: A group of lawyers on Friday attacked a station house officer (SHO) from Kasur at the Lahore High Court before police took him in custody following denial of pre-arrest bail in a case pertaining to the murder of a lawyer’s brother.

Justice Sardar Akbar Ali Dogar dismissed the bail petition of Mustafabad, Kasur, SHO Hassan Imran after hearing arguments in the case.

Following the dismissal of his bail plea, lawyers attacked the police officer, despite heavy police security, and slapped and punched him, before the high court security personnel intervened and rescued the SHO.

During the hearing, lawyers for the complainant submitted that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigated the matter under the Custodial Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act.

They said the agency found the police officials responsible for murder in custody.

They said that out of the five accused police officials, three had been arrested, while the remaining two are absconding.

The lawyers further contended that their colleague’s brother, Rizwan, had been arrested and four cases were registered against him the same day.

After hearing arguments from the lawyers, the judge dismissed the bail petition of the SHO and another police official.

The custodial death case was originally registered in July 2024 against five police officials -- SHO Hassan Imran, sub-inspectors Tariq Mehmood and Muhammad Sadiq, head constable Ishtiaq and constable Yaqoob.

The case was later transferred to the FIA Lahore Zone for investigation on the orders of the Lahore High Court. The competent authority subsequently assigned the investigation to FIA Gujranwala Zone Assistant Director Naeem Akhtar.

According to FIA officials, the statements of the complainant, witnesses and the accused were recorded during the initial inquiry, and the relevant records were obtained. On completion of the inquiry, the suspects were held responsible in the case.

The FIA said further investigation was underway.
