BAHAWALNAGAR: A young worker was burnt alive after falling into the brick kiln furnace at Chak Nadir Shah on Friday.

According to the family of Gulab Ali (17) and eyewitnesses, he had been working as a labourer at a brick kiln alongside other family members for the past few years.

On Friday night at around 12am, while he was busy feeding fuel mixture into the kiln, his foot slipped and he fell into the burning furnace. He was burnt alive within a few minutes and his coworkers were unable to save him since neither the victim nor other workers were wearing protective gear or other safety equipment.

Later, Rescue 1122 shifted the remains of the victim to the DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

The family demanded a probe, legal action against the brick kiln owner, and financial compensation.

Meanwhile, an incident report at the Saddar Police Station, a copy available with Dawn, confirmed that Gulab was underage. The report said he was employed at a kiln owned by one Muhammad Aslam. It said that the underage worker died from burns after he slipped and fell into the kiln while working at around 12:30am.

The police said that they had not yet received any application from the family for action.
