QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has said democracy was not merely about holding elections but a system of governance based on the rule of the people, collective responsibility and taking everyone along.

In a meeting with provincial ministers, including Mir Asim Kurd Gello and Noor Muhammad Dummar, MPA Zarak Khan Mandokhail and Parliamentary Secretary Muhammad Khan Lehri at Governor House, he said democracy required tolerance and giving others space to present their point of view.

He said concrete steps were being taken to strengthen government institutions at every level, stressing the need to bring young people closer to the national mainstream.

He said democratic institutions had a fundamental responsibility to create awareness among citizens about their rights and duties, strengthen social justice and ensure protection of their constitutional rights and powers.
