KARACHI: A purported job fair at a farmhouse in the Gadap area turned into a scam on Wednesday when organisers collected the mobile phones of 51 women on the pretext of ensuring fairness during interviews and fled, police said.
Gadap City SHO Mumtaz Marwat told Dawn that a large number of women travelling in two buses had been brought to the farmhouse to attend a “job fair”.
He said the organisers asked the women to hand over their mobile phones as recording was not allowed to ensure fairness during the interviews. The organisers subsequently collected the phones of 51 women and fled, the officer said. Police were investigating the incident, he said, adding that no one had been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered immediate arrest of those who looted mobile phones from the victim women.
