MOHMAND: Police, Levies and former Khasadar personnel in merged districts have withdrawn their boycott of security duties for the polio vaccination campaign, following an initiative by the police department to address their longstanding service-related concerns.

The withdrawal is expected to facilitate the deployment of security personnel with vaccination teams and help ensure that the campaign proceeds according to schedule in the merged districts.

A police official said the former Khasadar personnel had been protesting for several weeks over issues related to service structure, seniority, promotions and pension benefits. During the protest, the registration of FIRs and entries in daily police diaries at police stations had also been suspended.

According to sources, representatives of the former Khasadar forces and a committee constituted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP will hold talks at the Central Police Office in Peshawar on Tuesday. The meeting will focus on the personnel’s service-related demands.

The committee is headed by the additional IG investigations and comprises the DIGs of operations and headquarters and the AIGs of legal and human resources and management development.

It will examine matters relating to pension benefits, seniority, promotions, cases of police personnel martyred before the merger and other service-related issues.

The order also provides for the involvement of police officers from the merged districts to assist the committee in examining complaints and concerns raised by personnel from their respective areas.

Representatives of the former Khasadar forces from all the merged districts have also been included in the consultation process, providing them an opportunity to present their service-related concerns directly before the committee.
