DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur underwent surgery at a local hospital about 10 days ago for an old neck injury, his brother Faisal Amin Gandapur claimed on Sunday.

Clarifying reports about Mr Gandapur’s health, Faisal Amin said he was taken to a hospital in Dera after complaining of discomfort following the surgery. Doctors examined him and provided treatment before advising him to rest at home.

“The former chief minister’s recent visit to hospital was a follow-up visit after the surgery, including a change of dressing and routine medical examination.”

Faisal Amin had earlier shared photographs of his brother showing stitches at the back of his neck on social media. He said the surgery had been carried out to treat an old and painful injury and added that nine stitches had been applied following the procedure.

Faisal regrets ‘false propaganda’ regarding former CM’s health

According to Faisal Amin, Mr Gandapur had sustained the injury while in Punjab police custody before the 2024 general elections. He alleged that the injury resulted from electric shocks administered during the custody.

The latest hospital visit, according to Faisal Amin, was not for a fresh surgical procedure but part of the post-operative follow-up. “Mr Gandapur was examined by doctors and advised to continue resting at home.”

Faisal Amin said he had shared the photographs in response to what he described as propaganda concerning his brother’s health.

The former chief minister also confirmed the authenticity of the photographs showing the stitches.

Faisal Amin said the former chief minister had raised the issue of his health with senior officials during a meeting of the Apex Committee when he was serving as chief minister. According to him, senior government officials had offered to facilitate his treatment, but he declined, saying he could arrange treatment himself.

Faisal Amin also criticised what he described as a campaign by some people within PTI targeting Mr Ali Gandapur over his health.

He said it was inappropriate to use his health condition for political purposes and expressed regret over what he described as attempts to malign him.

Mr Faisal Amin said that despite the health issues, the former chief minister was participating in various programmes and campaigning for the Sept 27 political call, including a street mobilisation campaign.

The allegations regarding the origin of the old wound, including the claim that it resulted from alleged electric shocks while in custody, could not be independently verified.
