Actor Asif Iqbal passes away

LAHORE: Renowned actor and stage comedian Asif Iqbal passed away in Lahore on Saturday due to heart attack. He was 60.

Funeral prayers for him were offered at Nargis Block, Allama Iqbal Town.

Asif Iqbal hailed from Gujranwala. He got his early education from Atta Muhamamd High School and graduated from the Government College for Boys, Gujranwala.

According to his close circles, he was introduced to theatre by Sohail Ahmed.

Asif began his career in stage dramas as an assistant director back in 90s but moved to acting. He extensively worked at private commercial theatre. He also acted in many plays at Alhamra Arts Council. Most of his career was associated with commercial theatre though he did television and film as well.

Asif was a close companion of Mastana and Baboo Baral. He remained associated with theatre for a long time and earned a special place in viewers’ hearts through his distinctive acting style. During his career, he performed memorable roles in numerous plays. His performances were marked by spontaneity and humour, which made him popular among the audiences.
