Gujar Khan: The body of the third child was recovered from the canal on the fourth day of the Lelhri bridge incident on Saturday, district emergency officer Mirpur Sardar Najam Sadozai confirmed.

He said bodies of two of the three children — Noor Fatima and her sister Fajar Zeshan — were recovered on Thursday while that of Umar Zeeshan (their brother) was retrieved on the fourth day of the search operation at the canal in Kharri Sharif area near Jhelum.

Zeeshan, resident of Dina tehsil, having estranged relations with his wife had allegedly thrown the three children into the canal last Tuesday. After his arrest by Mangla police of Jhelum, he confessed to his offence, said Mr Sikandar, SP investigations Jhelum.

According to the emergency officer, high flow of water in the canal impeded the search operation. Early on Saturday morning, the turbines of a hydal power project got tripped for some time and the body of Umar surfaced on the water and was retrieved.
