337 gastro patients hospitalised

MULTAN, July 24: As many as 337 patients of gastroenteritis were admitted to Nishtar Hospital and Children Hospital Complex here during the last week as hot and humid weather continued.

Emergency ward’s deputy medical superintendent Dr Mona said of a total 214 patients attended at the OPD, 188 seriously ill patients were admitted in emergency ward.

Children Hospital Complex medical superintendent Dr Nazar Abbas Gardezi said of 123 kids with diarrhoea brought to the hospital, 47 in serious condition were admitted to the intensive care unit.

The doctors advised people to drink boiled water, take plenty of liquids to combat dehydration, avoid direct exposure to sunlight and replace lost body salts with saline drinks. They urged Wasa authorities to supply chlorinated water to minimise the occurrence of gastroenteritis. — APP
