KARACHI: Car sales by traditional automakers rose 11 per cent year-on-year but fell 21pc month-on-month to 15,558 in August, mainly owing to competition from New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) reported on Monday.
This August figure did not include sales from Sazgar Engineering Works Ltd because the association had not received the relevant data.
A report by Topline Securities said that positive momentum in auto sales was expected in the current fiscal year, supported by the launch of new variants and the entry of new brands into the market.
However, the PAMA added that the decline in sales in August compared to July was primarily due to uncertainty surrounding the new auto policy and an uncertain regional atmosphere affecting the supply chain.
Indus Motor Company, assembler of Toyota, posted a 19pc year-on-year increase to 4,029 units in August compared to 21pc decline month-on-month.
The PAMA highlighted that year-on-year growth was driven by Corolla, Yaris, and Cross sales, which collectively increased by 21pc to 3,079 units.
Meanwhile, Fortuner and IMV sales went up by 12pc over August last year.
Similarly, Honda Atlas Cars also recorded sales growth year-on-year to 2,633 units in August but remained flat month-on-month.
Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company reported sales of 7,633 units, with an increase of 7pc over the same month last year and declined by 25pc over July.
Two- and three-wheeler sales rose 20pc YoY and 3pc MoM to 178,119 units in August. Truck and bus sales grew by 31pc YoY but declined 5pc MoM to 875 units during the month.
