JHANG, July 24: A union council naib nazim was shot dead while another person was injured seriously by four unidentified assailants in Mandi Shah Jewana, some 35 kilometers from here on Monday.

Sahibzada Azhar Abbas of Darbar Mahbali Sharif had shifted to Mandi Shah Jewna a few months back on account of murder enmity in his village. He was running a general store in Mandi Shah Jewna.

On Monday, four armed men riding on two motorcycles came to his store in Mandi Shah Jewna market and sprayed a volley of bullets on him. He sustained serious bullet wounds and died while being taken to hospital. A bullet also hit Umar Hayat who was also present there. He was rushed to the local DHQ Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

A police source said that the murder case would be registered only after the autopsy report.

The deceased was also elected unopposed naib nazim of the Union Council No 8, Kariwala, in the 2005 local body election.

The family of the deceased had rivalry in the village and both rival parties had reportedly killed each other’s men.
