CHARSADDA: District police claimed that investigators had made significant progress in the murder case of Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees Shaheed, adding the people of Charsadda would soon hear “good news” regarding arrest of the suspects.
Talking to media persons here on Thursday, DPO Rifat Ullah Khan said that investigations into the high-profile murder case were being conducted by examining different aspects and leads, adding that such cases could not be investigated by focusing on an individual alone.
He said the killing of Maulana Muhammad Idrees was a major tragedy, recalling that he had promised the people of Charsadda after assuming charge as DPO that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“I am committed to my promise,” he said, adding that police were following all the required parameters of investigation to reach the killers.
Mr Khan said investigators were working not only to trace the alleged killers but also to identify the gang allegedly linked to the crime and other elements involved in it.
He said some elements allegedly connected with the case and other high-profile targets were also being identified, but declined to share further details at this stage, saying it would be premature to disclose information that could affect the investigation.
ABSENCE OF IMRAN KHAN’S PICTURE FROM BANNER QUESTIONED: Differences have surfaced among Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers in the district after a banner displayed at a party meeting convened in connection with the Sept 27 programme did not carry a picture of the party’s founder, Imran Khan, despite featuring photographs of several lawmakers and party leaders.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of PTI district president Arshad Umarzai. The absence of Mr Khan’s photograph has drawn criticism from the party’s youth wing, ideological workers and members of the Insaf Labour Wing, who questioned whether the party’s founder and his political struggles were being deliberately overlooked.
Insaf Labour Wing Charsadda president Gul Nawaz Khan said the issue was not merely about a photograph but about the party’s ideology, loyalty and identity.
“This party is not anyone’s personal property. The workers will not remain silent. They will ask questions, demand answers and raise their voice,” he said.
He said party positions were temporary but Mr Khan’s political ideology and the struggle of PTI workers would continue. The workers also criticised the absence of Mr Khan’s photograph despite the presence of provincial ministers, MNAs, MPAs and other senior party figures at the gathering.
MNA Fazal Mohammad Khan, while addressing the gathering, also spoke about the Sept 27 programme and stressed the need for workers to travel to Islamabad while taking precautions to avoid injuries or arrests.
The remarks and the banner have triggered discussion among PTI workers, particularly on social media, where photographs of the banner are being circulated and criticised.
