LAHORE: A Lahore High Court two-judge bench on Tuesday disposed of a habeas corpus petition seeking the recovery of PTI leader Hammad Azhar following his production before anti-terrorism court and grant of physical remand to police in a May 9 case.

Hammad’s mother, Ishrat Azhar, had filed the petition through Barrister Abuzar Salman Niazi.

During the hearing, the bench, headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, observed that Hammad had been produced before the relevant court.

The bench noted that any request regarding meetings between Hammad and his lawyer or family should be filed before the trial court.

With these observations, the bench disposed of the petition.

The petitioner had stated that Hammad was arrested a couple of days earlier and his whereabouts were not known.

She also expressed concerns about his security and contended that no accused could be kept in unlawful detention.

The petitioner sought directions for the authorities to declare her son’s alleged illegal detention unlawful and produce him before the relevant court.

She also sought directions for allowing Hammad to meet his family and lawyer.
