RAWALPINDI: A man and his cousin were booked by the Saddar Bairooni police on Friday after the body of his wife was found at their home.

Police registered a murder case on the complaint of the deceased woman’s brother against her husband and the husband’s cousin, and shifted her body to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A resident of Dera Ghazi Khan lodged an FIR with the police, saying that his sister, 21, had married the suspect two years ago and they had a one-year-old son.

He said in the FIR that his sister’s husband used to talk to other women on his mobile phone and spent most of his time outside the house, due to which relations between the couple remained tense.

He further said his brother-in-law had gone to Dubai to earn a living and had returned to Pakistan four months ago. He said that his sister had spoken to her mother on phone at 7:30pm on Thursday and told her that her in-laws had made her life miserable.

He said in the FIR that when he contacted his sister on her mobile phone at about 10:30pm, his sister’s sister-in-law answered the call instead of her.

“She informed me that my sister had committed suicide,” the complainant said in the FIR. He said he and his brothers reached their sister’s house and found her dead. He alleged that she had been strangled by her husband and others.

Later, police, PFSA officials and CSIU experts reached the crime scene, collected evidence and shifted the body to the DHQ hospital for post-mortem.

A police spokesman said in a statement that, according to initial investigation, the woman had died due to strangulation. However, he said an investigation was under way and the final determination of the cause of death would be made in light of the post-mortem and forensic reports.

The case would proceed on the basis of the facts established through the reports, he said.
