QUETTA: Reports about the killing of a female Balochi folk singer, widely carried by mainstream media organisations a day earlier, turned out to be misinformation.

Mai Subhai, a well-known Balochi folk singer, was said to have been gunned down in Dera Bugti on Wednesday.

However, it subsequently emerged that the reports — first circulated on social media and later picked up by TV channels and news outlets — were incorrect, and that Mai Subhai had actually died decades ago.

A statement issued by Deputy Commissioner South Dera Bugti on Thursday also clarified that the reports of Mai Subhai’s killing in Dera Bugti were “incorrect and misleading”.
