KARACHI: Total cement despatches — local sales and exports — dipped year-on-year 0.70 per cent to 4.039 million tonnes in August.

According to data released by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), local cement despatches fell year-on-year 1.07pc to 3.283m tonnes in August. However, exports marginally increased by 0.92pc to 756,553 tonnes.

Total cement despatches year-on-year rose 2pc to 8.521m tonnes in 2MFY27. Domestic sales rose 8pc to 7.058m tonnes. Exports fell 16.69pc to 1.464mn tonnes in July-August.

APCMA’s spokesman expressed grave concerns about the alarming situation in the country’s northern areas due to heavy rains. “Our agriculture and housing are badly affected by the floods, and masses need help from the government to cope,” he added.

Adeel Ashraf of Topline Securities attributed the year-on-year sales drop in August to multiple factors, including an increase in ex-factory prices, higher diesel prices, and the impact of monsoon rains.
