THE Ghari village in Mehar taluka of Dadu district has been facing for the last two decades a serious educational problem owing to the absence of a properly constructed and functional girls’ school. The construction of the local government school was initiated nearly two decades ago, but the building remains incomplete even today, leaving hundreds of girls deprived of access to elementary education.
The school site, which was meant to provide a safe and proper learning environment for local girls, has now become a livestock shelter. The issue has repeatedly been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities and elected representatives, but there has been no change in the grim ground reality. In April this year, an official inspection team visited the site and is said to have submitted a report to the higher authorities.
The locals were given the impression that the team had visited in compliance with the provincial chief minister’s directive, raising the hope that the stalled construction might finally resume. Five months later, there is nothing but silence on the critical matter.
The provincial authorities concerned should take immediate measures for the completion of the construction work so that girls from Ghari and nearby areas may receive elementary education instead of being deprived of schooling due to the lack of a functional school in their vicinity.
