KARACHI: A trader was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in New Karachi on Thursday morning when he was on his way to New Subzi Mandi, police said.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Imran Riazuddin.

New Karachi Industrial Area SHO Zahid Lodhi said the deceased was engaged in the vegetable business. He left his residence at around 4:15am, as per his routine, along with his relative, Zakir. They were travelling in a vehicle (KB-7151), driven by Sajjad Ahmed.

The officer said that after they travelled a short distance, two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle approached the vehicle from behind. The suspects intercepted the vehicle and forced it to stop. One of the suspects shot Imran in the head, as a result of which he died on the spot. Both suspects fled from the scene on their motorcycle.

The SHO ruled out the possibility of robbery. During the inspection of the crime scene, police recovered one spent bullet casing. Further investigation is underway.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
