BAHAWALPUR, July 21: Two persons were killed and eight others injured in crossfire between the two rival groups near Mubarakpur, about 30 kilometres from here, on Friday.

According to reports, a group headed by Wahid Bakhsh had a grudge against Jam Mithu and others who complained against them (Wahid) to the police about keeping unlicensed arms. The police arrested Wahid and his aide Khadim Husain.

The two groups exchanged fire as a result of which Jam Shaukat, brother of Jam Mithu and Mulazim Husain from the rival group were killed. Eight of the fighters suffered injuries.

EXECUTION: A man, his two sons and their accomplice will be hanged till death at the new central jail on Aug 1.

Taj Muhammad, his two sons Imtiaz Ali and Abdul Ghani and Allah Ditta were handed down death sentence under section 302 PPC. Earlier, their execution was postponed by the president.

HOCKEY: The Sixth All Pakistan Flood-lit Nishan-i-Haider hockey tournament began at Bahawalpur stadium.

DHA The Toba Tak Singh DHA team won the inaugural match beating Bahawalnagar 6-3. Toba’s Muhammad Nasir scored a hat-trick while Mumtaz Ahmed and Mubashar scored two and one goal, respectively. From Bahawalnagar side, Aslam and Ibrar scored two and one goal, respectively.

In the second match, the Bahawalpur DHA beat Sahiwal 3-2. Irfan, Umer Bhutta and Tahir Mehmood were the scorers from Bahawalpur side while Sahiwal’s Usman scored both the goals.

Bahawlapur Range DIG Ghulam Haider Marth has inaugurated the tournament in which country’s top teams and the Indian Air Force hockey team are taking part.
