BAHAWALPUR: The Gaggo Mandi police in Vehari district on Tuesday registered an abduction and gang-rape case against four suspects on the order of provincial police chief, four months after they committed the alleged crime.

On the orders of Punjab inspector general of police (IGP), a senior officer conducted a probe into the incident, recommending action against the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) concerned, the station house officer (SHO) of Burewala Saddar police, and other officials found guilty of negligence and inaction, resulting in prolonged delay in the FIR registration.

According to police sources, ‘N’, wife of Nazakat Ali, a resident of Chak No 247 /EB was allegedly abducted on May 1, 2026 by a suspect ‘A’ and his three nominated accomplices.

The suspects took her to a house, where they allegedly gang-raped ‘N’.

Later, the survivor somehow freed herself and went to Burewala Saddar police station to lodge an FIR, where the front desk officials and other staff allegedly attempted to cover up the heinous crime and refused to register her complaint.

After being disappointed by the local police, the survivor sent her complaint to the Punjab IGP, who appointed Multan Internal Accountability SP Hassan Raza as inquiry officer.

The SP, in his inquiry report, declared the police concerned guilty of negligence, and on his orders Burewala Saddar police registered the FIR of abduction and gang-rape against the four suspects.

In addition, the inquiry officer also summoned the negligent police officials – Burewala Circle DSP Rana Imran Tipu, former SHO Mahar Abbas, Sub-Inspector Jamil, and front desk staff – recommending departmental action against them for their negligence and lack of cooperation with the complainant.

The child was shifted to Lodhran DHQ Hospital for treatment.

The injured child’s father filed a complaint against the dog owner with the police for legal action.
