KARACHI: Parents have approached the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh against alleged arbitrary practices and unlawful increases in fees by the Beaconhouse School System and raised a number of complaints with Ombudsman Mohammad Sohail Rajput.

The hearing was also attended by Special Secretary of Education Shazia Qazi, Director General Private Schools Mohammad Afzal, Additional Director Rafia Javed, Registrar Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Masood Ishrat, Regional Director Central Iqbal Nafees and a large number of parents.

During the hearing, the parents claimed that the school administration was arbitrarily increasing fees every year in violation of the law.

They also complained that despite the prevailing severe inflation, parents were being burdened with the additional expenses of changing their children’s school uniforms every two years.

They further alleged that they were compelled to purchase their children’s course books from only designated vendors at excessively high prices.

They also said that when a child was promoted to the next class, younger siblings were not allowed to use the previous course books, creating an additional financial burden on families.

Taking notice of the complaints, Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh Mohammad Sohail Rajput directed the director general of private schools to submit a detailed report by Tuesday.

He also directed that action be taken against the school administration over any unlawful practices found during the inquiry.
