ISLAMABAD: Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi took oath as acting Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan (FCC) on Friday, assuming charge in the absence of top judge Aminuddin Khan, who is on an overseas visit.

During a dignified ceremony at the court, Justice Aamer Farooq administered the oath of office to Justice Rizvi. The event was attended by FCC judges, the registrar, court officers, and representatives from the Ministry of Law, the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Pakistan Bar Council.

Following the cerem­ony, Justice Rizvi assumed the responsibilities of the office to maintain the uninterrupted, effective and timely dispensation of constitutional justice.

Separately, Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi hosted a delegation of probationary officers from the Civil Services Academy at the Supreme Court on Friday as part of their mandatory exposure visits to state institutions.

Farhan Aziz Khawaja, the academy’s director general, led the delegation undergoing the 54th Common Training Programme.

During an interactive session, CJP Afridi highlighted the salient features of parliamentary democracy and the trichotomy of powers.

He explained the complementary roles of the legislature, executive and judiciary in upholding constitutional governance.
