CHARSADDA: A jirga of political parties in Tangi on Sunday demanded a judicial inquiry into the death of a sweeper at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, and sought compensation for the bereaved family and suspension of the hospital’s medical superintendent.
The deceased, Khurram Iqbal, belonged to the Christian community.
The meeting was addressed by Qaumi Watan Party’s Wahdat Khan, Awami National Party’s Nasir Kamal Khan, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s Arif Ahmed Pracha, civil society representatives Faizul Amin, Khalid Mansoor, Mohammad Zai and others.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the jirga also called upon the hospital administration to publicly apologise to the bereaved family through the media and demanded that those found responsible for any negligence be proceeded against in accordance with the law.
The jirga members said the death of an employee while performing his duties was a serious matter and that the concerns of the bereaved family and the wider community could only be addressed through a transparent investigation.
Iqbal had reportedly died after falling while carrying out tree-trimming work at the hospital a few days ago.
His death had triggered a protest by members of the Christian community, who staged a sit-in at Farooq Azam Chowk and demanded action against the hospital administration.
