QUETTA/GWADAR: Two people were killed and five others injured in separate incidents of firing and a bomb blast in Ziarat and Turbat on Friday.

Police said unknown armed men opened fire on two motorcyclists in Ziarat, killing both of them. The deceased were identified as Ehsanullah and Muhammad Younis, who were travelling to Quetta.

The victims were residents of Sanjavi in Ziarat district and were reportedly travelling from Sanjavi to Quetta when they came under attack.

The bodies were taken to Sanjavi, where their funeral prayers were offered. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Blast injures five

Meanwhile, five people were injured in a blast targeting a Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle on Turbat Main Road, followed by firing by security personnel.

According to official sources, the explosion occurred around 11am near Shaheed Fida Chowk, where the FC vehicle had been deployed as part of heightened security measures for Independence Day. Following the blast, security forces opened fire.

Police sources said the blast and subsequent gunfire shattered the shutters of nearby shops and damaged the windowpanes of several parked vehicles.

The injured people were immediately shifted to Teaching Hospital Turbat for treatment.

Soon after the incident, security forces cordoned off the area, restricted traffic and pedestrian movement, and launched an investigation into the attack.

Further details about the nature of the explosion and the motive behind the attack are yet to be ascertained.
