KARACHI: A man shot dead his wife allegedly for supporting the free-will marriage of their daughter in Sultanabad on Friday.
Docks SHO Waqar Kaiser said that the victim, Zarmeen, 45, was the mother of two daughters and a son. One of her daughters recently married of her own free will.
While the decision was supported by her mother, the father, Shaukat Tanoli, was unhappy with it, he said, adding that the couple frequently quarrelled with each other over this issue.
On Friday, a heated argument ensued between them, after which Shaukat took out his pistol and opened fire on Zarmeen. As a result, she sustained critical wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
The police arrested the suspect and recovered the pistol.
The officer said the victim’s father had died while her mother lived in Abbottabad. He said that she was on her way to Karachi to claim the body and lodge an FIR.
