HARIPUR: A man allegedly killed his parents-in-law over a family dispute in Ali Khan village, police said here on Friday.
The accused managed to escape after committing the crime, police and family said.
Sera-i-Saleh police quoted Afsheen Zehra, 32, wife of Syed Waqar Hussain Shah, as saying that she and her younger sister, Khushbakht Zehra, were sleeping in their room while their parents were in another room. She said that at 2.30am on Friday, her brother-in-law, Mohsin Shah, son of Ghulam Shabir of Mohri village, entered the room of her parents and shot them dead.
Upon hearing the gunshots, according to the complainant, they rushed to the room of their parents and saw Mohsin Shah leaving the room after committing the murder of her father, Syed Zamir Haider Shah, 64, and mother, Naheed Zehra, 63.
The complainant said that the accused also chased them to their room and opened fire at them, but they escaped unhurt, locking the door from inside.
The motive behind the double murder, according to the complainant, was a marital dispute between Mohsin Shah and his wife, Khushbakht Zehra, who had been living with her parents for the last few days.
The police have registered a case against Mohsin Shah and launched efforts to trace and arrest him.
Meanwhile, a boy drowned in the Khanpur Dam’s canal, police and witnesses said on Friday.
Khanpur police quoted witnesses as saying that some boys from Rawalpindi were on a picnic to Khanpur Dam on Friday morning. When they started bathing in the right canal of the dam, one of them, identified as Abdullah, 12, drowned.
Rescue 1122 teams found Abdullah’s body after a search of about 30 minutes. The body was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Khanpur, where it was handed over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.
