Four get 30-year jail each in bank fraud case

LAHORE: A Special Court (Offences in Bank) has awarded a collective imprisonment of 30-year each to four accused persons in a bank fraud case.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Corporate Banking Circle (CBC), Lahore, had registered a case in 2023.

The presiding judge, Mian Shahzad Raza, convicted the accused persons – Qasim Raza Bokhari, Jahanzeb, Haris Abbasi and Muhammad Mehran – for charges established under Sections 406, 419, 420, 468, 471 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The judge awarded seven-year imprisonment to each convict for four charges while two-year jail term for the abetment offence. He also imposed a collective heavy fine on each convict.

All the sentences will run concurrently.

FIA Assistant Director Legal Kiran Muqeem stated the accused persons had caused a loss of Rs59.8 million to Habib Bank Limited (HBL) by illegally transferring funds through the bank’s connect app without maintaining the required balance.
