PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Tuesday handed over armoured personnel carriers (APCs), forklift trucks, single and double cabin vehicles and motorcycles along with other equipment to the district police officers and heads of police units to deal with terrorism and unrest.
The handover ceremony was held at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines here, with Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed distributing vehicles, according to an official statement.
Mr Hameed also reviewed the operational capabilities of the armoured vehicles, double cabins and fork lifters and got necessary briefings from officials. Additional IGPs, DIGs and other senior police officials were also present on the occasion.
The statement said that under the effective and public-friendly policing policy in the province, IGP KP handed over the keys of modern Dragon APCs, bulletproof vehicles, single and double cabin vehicles, forklift trucks and motorcycles to the district police officers to better deal with terrorist threats and protect the lives of police personnel.
Initiative to help counter terrorism, unrest, says IGP
“In order to effectively respond to terrorist attacks and to make the movement of troops in high-risk areas easier and safer, highly advanced Dragon APCs have been handed over to Tank, Hangu and Upper Swat, while other APCs have been handed over to Upper Dir and Mansehra.”
The statement also said modern Revo vehicles were given to DPOs of Kohat and Torghar, while Hiace vans were distributed to Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Abbottabad police and the police telecommunications unit.
Also, single and double cabin vehicles have been provided to enhance the operational capacity of district police.
“4x4 single cabin vehicles have been given to Swat and Lower Dir districts, while 4x2 single cabin vehicles have been given to Hangu and Tank. Also, 33 fork lifters were distributed among various districts and units, and keys of 25 motorcycles to various DPOs.”
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said that along with making the vehicles available to officers and personnel in terrorism-affected districts bulletproof, single and double cabin vehicles including modern Dragon APCs had also been given to officers to enhance the operational capacity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
He said that 84 of APCs were being upgraded with modern technology to make them impregnable and APCs would continue to be inducted into the police force consistently.
The IGP said that side armouring of police mobiles was carried out last year so that the personnel on patrol could move safely.
He said that 33 forklift trucks had been given to various districts of the province to improve the traffic system, which will play an important role in traffic management, illegal parking and reducing congestion on highways.
Mr Hameed said that the capacity building of police was being further strengthened and made more effective through modern APCs and pickup vehicles.
He said that to ensure lasting peace, effective policing and provision of quality services to the people, the police were being equipped with modern weapons, quality training as well as modern vehicles and gadgets, and the process would continue in the future as well.
