PESHAWAR: Minister for information and public relations Shafi Jan on Sunday rejected reports and a purported notification regarding the separation of Ghazi tehsil from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its inclusion in Punjab, terming the reports and the notification baseless and fabricated.
He said that since Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi assumed office, certain elements had been continuously engaged in spreading false news and propaganda against the provincial government, adding that the purported notification concerning Ghazi tehsil was yet another attempt to create confusion and mislead the public.
In a statement issued from his office, the minister said the KP residents were well aware of such propaganda and would not be misled by fabricated documents or unverified claims. “Every time these elements launch a campaign based on lies, their falsehood ultimately backfires,” he said.
He clarified that the geographical boundaries or constitutional status of a province could not be altered through a mere notification and that any such change required fulfilment of the constitutional requirements and the prescribed constitutional process.
“Therefore, no fake or fabricated notification can alter the constitutional or geographical status of any area of the province,” he said.
Mr Jan said that safeguarding the mandate given to the government by the people was the government’s constitutional and democratic responsibility. “We will not allow any conspiracy against the people’s mandate or the territorial integrity of the province to succeed,” he said.
He stated that legal action would be initiated against those involved in preparing, circulating or promoting fake government notifications, adding that elements attempting to create unrest, confusion and uncertainty among the public through deliberate disinformation would be held accountable, he added.
Mr Jan urged people to remain vigilant and refrain from believing or sharing fake notifications and unverified reports and advised citizens to verify information concerning government decisions and notifications through official and authenticated government sources.
