RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Salman Ghani on Saturday asked the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to improve the condition of Murree Road and launch beautification and road-marking work as soon as possible.
The commissioner stated this while chairing a meeting at the RDA to review the proposed road-marking and beautification works along Murree Road and its major intersections.
During the meeting, RDA officials gave a detailed presentation on the proposed road-marking activities and their implementation plan.
The presentation covered zebra crossings, lane markings, stone painting and other related works planned for major roads and intersections across Rawalpindi city.
Accordingly, zebra crossings and lane markings have been proposed at all major intersections along both sides of Murree Road, with special attention to locations experiencing heavy traffic and significant pedestrian movement.
The proposed road markings will help clearly define traffic lanes, guide motorists, facilitate safer pedestrian crossings and improve traffic discipline at key junctions.
Stone painting and other beautification measures will also be carried out at selected locations to enhance the visual appearance of the city’s major thoroughfare.
The initiative is aimed at improving traffic management, enhancing road safety, facilitating pedestrians and motorists, and improving the overall aesthetic appearance of Rawalpindi.
Commissioner Salman Ghani reviewed the proposed works in detail and directed the concerned officials to ensure their timely, quality and effective execution.
He stressed that the assigned works should be undertaken on a priority basis and implemented immediately in line with the directions of the Punjab chief minister.
He further directed the RDA to ensure that all activities were completed within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with the approved standards.
He emphasised that the road-marking and beautification works should be executed in a coordinated manner to ensure visible improvements in traffic flow, pedestrian safety and the overall appearance of Rawalpindi.
He directed the concerned officers to maintain close coordination during implementation and ensure that the works were completed efficiently and according to the approved standards.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Salman Ghani visited the headquarters of the Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi.
During the visit, the commissioner toured the agency’s Central Control Room, where he was given a detailed briefing on the functioning of sanitation operations, monitoring mechanisms, staff attendance, vehicle tracking and other key operational matters.
While reviewing the monitoring system in detail, Commissioner Salman Ghani directed that the monitoring of sanitation operations be made more effective and comprehensive to ensure real-time supervision of field activities and prompt resolution of operational issues.
He further instructed that a regular review meeting on sanitation operations and monitoring be held every Thursday to assess progress on a continuous basis and take immediate corrective measures wherever improvements are required.
The commissioner stated that, following the Punjab government’s decision to assign municipal services to the additional deputy commissioners, regular coordination and review meetings should also be held with them to further improve the performance of sanitation and other municipal services.
He emphasised that citizens’ feedback and complaints should be utilised effectively to strengthen the sanitation system.
In this regard, he suggested that the introduction of an AI-powered chatbot for public feedback could be considered, enabling citizens to directly submit complaints, suggestions and feedback regarding sanitation services.
Managing Director Rana Sajid Safdar assured the commissioner that the Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi would continue taking all possible measures to further improve sanitation services through effective monitoring, the use of modern technology, and the incorporation of citizens’ feedback into operational planning and service delivery.
