GUJRAT: The Agriculture (Extension) Department has seized counterfeit DAP fertiliser worth more than Rs20 million during a raid at a rice mills in Mouza Mohla, Gujrat.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of Director Agriculture (Extension), Gujrat Division, Dr Irfanullah Warraich, by Assistant Director Agriculture (Extension) and Assistant Controller Fertilizer Muhammad Athar Latif.

Officials collected fertiliser samples for laboratory testg and sealed 1,140 bags (50kg each) of suspected DAP worth approximately Rs18.24 million. Laboratory analysis later confirmed the fertiliser was fake. A case has been registered under the Punjab Fertilizer Control Act, 2025 against Muhammad Azmat and other suspects.

According to the agriculture department, investigations revealed that 1,270 bags of counterfeit DAP fertiliser worth Rs20.32 million were part of the illegal operation.

A total of 1,244 bags were taken into police custody as case property, while the in-charge of the mills was arrested.

The department said further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the supply chain.
