LOVELY PUNJAB: I am a resident of Larkana, but have been staying in Lahore for some time. Back in my hometown, I used to think that all cities are the same, but I am impressed by the creative work of the Punjab government and the social tendencies of the people here. They have left no stone unturned to beautify the province. Unlike illegal encroachments in Sindh, they have planted hundreds of saplings under flyovers and bridges that have grown up into big beautiful trees, adding to the charm of the city. Sindh should emulate Punjab’s initiatives.

RENAMING A ROAD: Today (July 26) marks the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Shaukat Raza Mirza, former managing director of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) whose life and contributions deserve to be remembered. A distinguished engineer and corporate leader, he spent decades in Pakistan’s energy sector before taking up the PSO charge where he initiated significant reforms aimed at modernisation. On the morning of July 26, 2001, while on his way to work, he was assassinated in Clifton, cutting short a remarkable life. The Sindh government should consider renaming that particular stretch of road in Clifton to honour the memory of a principled corporate leader.
