KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday inaugurated a modern dual carriageway from Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Chowrangi to the Dadex Factory on Manghopir Road, describing it as a major step towards improving connectivity and civic infrastructure in the city.
The project was completed at a cost of more than Rs412 million. The 1.8-kilometres-long road features dual carriageways measuring 10.25 metres in width on each side and includes curb blocks, a modern central median, road markings, an efficient drainage system and other essential civic facilities.
Addressing the gathering, the mayor said the project would significantly improve traffic flow and provide commuters with a safer and more comfortable travel experience.
“No proper road has ever been constructed in this area before. Different political parties came to power and made grand promises but failed to deliver practical results. Today, this long-standing demand of the people of Manghopir has finally been fulfilled,” he said.
The mayor also announced the completion of a Rs86.895m rehabilitation project of a 700-metre-long, 48-inch diameter water supply line in the area.
According to officials, the scheme included the installation of 16 T-connections, the repair of around 4,000 leakages, the removal of 2,400 illegal water connections and the laying of new four-inch water supply lines in 54 streets.
In addition, 53 double-arm street lights were installed, while sewerage drains were desilted and drainage arrangements were improved to enhance civic services.
