LAKKI MARWAT: Police on Friday claimed to have foiled a terror bid by defusing a bomb in the Muslim Bagh area near Serai Naurang town here.

District police officer Nazir Khan said that following the information that terrorists had planted a bomb in a public place near the town, a police contingent along with experts of the bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the area.

He said that the place where the bomb was planted was used by residents for recreational purposes. The law enforcers cordoned off the area, and BDS experts defused the explosive device, he added.

Mr Khan said that timely action averted a tragedy in the area. He called upon citizens to immediately report any suspicious person, material or activity to the nearest police station so that timely action could be taken for public safety.

Meanwhile, office-bearers of All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Subject Specialists Association, Lakki Marwat Chapter, have termed the new timetable for the intermediate section of government higher secondary schools as a historic step.

They said that the new timetable reflected the education department’s vision to achieve the goal of quality education. Talking to reporters here on Friday, the association’s leaders said that the new timetable had also allocated time for co-curricular activities.

Under the new timetable, six different student societies, including literary, science, arts, Seerat and community service, will be set up under the supervision of subject specialists, they maintained, saying that these societies will play a vital role in character-building of students.
