PESHAWAR, July 17: An under-trial prisoner was injured when his rival fired on him near the district and sessions court here on Monday. Police said that Mohammad Alamzeb, of Badhber, was being brought to the district and sessions court from the central prison to appear before the court in a murder case when his rival Ibad Sher allegedly fired, causing injury.

The accused and his brothers — Lal Sher and Aman Sher — escaped after the incident. The injured, who received a bullet in his neck, was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital, the police said. According to police, brother of Ibad Sher was killed by some persons in Badhber a year ago, but the family charged Alamzeb in the murder case and on Monday tried to avenge the killing.
