UMERKOT: A five-year-old boy was killed and his elder brother injured when lightning struck the Wali Sarwar village near Kunri town of Umerkot district amid downpour on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Vinod, son of Chaman, and his injured brother as Dilip, 8.

They were shifted to the Kunri Taluka Hospital where the injured boy was provided treatment.

In a separate incident, three children fell into a rainwater pond near their home in Kairlo village of Tharparkar region during a heavy spell of rain.

People present near the pond took out two of the children from the pond but a third one drowned, rescuers said.

The surviving children were transported to a major hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment.

Heavy rain brought down the temperature across the region after weeks of hot and humid weather conditions.
