GUJRAT: Four persons were killed and 16 others were injured, including children, in rain-related incidents across the province on Wednesday.
In one incident, a man identified as Imran (36) and his six-year-old son Ali were injured when the roof of their house caved in at Lalamusa’s Paharwal village.
Rescue officials said Ali later died at the Lalamusa trauma centre.
In another incident in Lalamusa, Rehmatan Bibi (45) was injured when the wall of a house fell on her when she was passing through the area near GT Road.
In Gujranwala city, a mentally-challenged man, identified as Shahabuddin, drowned after falling into an open pond near his home in Shamsi Chowk locality.
Separately, the roof of a makeshift room at an under-construction commercial building along the old GT Road in Gujrat caved in, injuring a labourer, Shahzad Riaz. He was shifted to the hospital by rescue officials.
NAROWAL: Six children were seriously injured when the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Sialkot.
A Rescue spokesperson said that the roof made of TR girders suddenly collapsed in village Kali Salah on Chaprar Road trapping children under the debris. A rescue team with the help of locals pulled out the children from under the rubble.
He said that Khadija (1), Muskan (4), Muhammad Khan (5), Asma (6), Maryam (7) and Fatima (9) were seriously injured in the incident. The spokesperson said that they were shifted to the Sialkot Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital.
SAHIWAL: A woman was killed when the roof of her livestock pond collapsed during heavy rains in Kot Khadim Ali Shah on Tuesday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said the roof, constructed with TR girders, mud, straw, and weak pillars, had been in poor condition.
Neighbours rushed to help and Rescue 1122 teams later retrieved the victim from the debris. She was shifted to the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The deceased was identified as Marriam Bibi (37).
TOBA TEK SINGH: A man identified as Sikandar Hayat (40) died in Jhang’s Mouza Wajhlana after a room in his dilapidated house caved in during rain.
In another incident in Jhang’s Mouza Chah Jan Muhammad Wala, the roof of an animal shed collapsed due to heavy rain injuring four persons.
Rescue officials removed the rubble and shifted the injured to the Jhang DHQ Hospital. They were identified as Muhammad Shahbaz (65), his wife Shahnaz Bibi (55), Sumera Nawaz (35) and Rimsha Sarfraz (10).
Separately, during a windstorm and heavy rain, a tree fell on a passing motorcycle near Khumananwala on Shorkot Cantonment Road. Muneeb Anwar (13) of Bangladesh Colony was severely wounded in the incident and was shifted to the Shorkot THQ Hospital, while the other bike rider remained unhurt.
In Faisalabad, a dilapidated roof of an outhouse collapsed in Chak 160 RB Banga of Chak Jhumra during rain. As a result, a woman identified as Nazia Bibi (47) and her daughter Maryam Azam (7) were seriously wounded.
Maryam was shifted to the Chak Jhumra THQ Hospital and her mother Nazia was referred to the Faisalabad Allied Hospital.
OKARA: A buffalo was killed while 14 other buffaloes were recovered from the debris of a cattle den that collapsed due to heavy rain on the midnight of Tuesday in village 34/GD on the Okara-Faisalabad Road.
After the incident, the villagers called Rescue 1122 and rushed to the site and jointly removed the debris.
