LAHORE: The Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayen-i-Pakistan leaders on Wednesday demanded the government take back its recent decision of fixing fuel price daily as well as suspension of wheat quota permits.

TTAP condemned the government’s handling of fuel pricing and wheat supply and has said that the residents have been made to pay twice for policy-decisions taken without consultation.

In a statement, TTAP Punjab Chief Organiser Ammar Ali Jan and Information Secretary Shayan Bashir said the province was paying both at the pump and at the tandoor. They said petrol and diesel prices had risen again on Tuesday under a new daily pricing mechanism. They said a pricing system that collapsed within a day of its own imposition amounts to improvisation rather than reform.

They said Punjab claimed a record wheat harvest of close to 22m tonnes while its own food department sought import permission. Furthermore, they claimed Punjab’s suspension of wheat quota permit had already pushed the roti prices from Rs17 to Rs25 in Pindi and Islamabad.

The TTAP demanded that both decisions be reversed pending genuine consultation, and that verified wheat stock data be published.
