KARACHI: Two labourers died and four others fell unconscious after inhaling carbon monoxide emitting from a generator in Korangi on Tuesday.

Zaman Town SHO Ayaz Khan said six men became unconscious after inhaling poisonous fumes from a generator inside a house in Bhittai Colony near Korangi Crossing.

They were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where two of them, identified as Waqas, 20, and Nadeem, 18, died during treatment.

The SHO said there had been a power outage in the area. The victims switched on a generator, and the fumes emitted by it filled the poorly ventilated room where they were sleeping.

He said that when someone arrived at the house in the morning, they found the labourers lying unconscious.

The condition of the four injured men was stated to be out of danger.
